1841 Banquet scene Aquatint by Charles Hunt

An original hand coloured aquatint by Charles Hunt (1803-1877), published in 1841 by I.W. Laird. The original painting is by Francis Calcraft Turner (C1782 - 1846). It comes from a series about "The Young Foxhunter". This is the fourth and last of the series, " The Dessert", and shows a fine banquet scene. It is in its apparently original birds eye maple frame. Some foxing.

Of local interest is that the scene depicted takes place roughly the time Melbourne began as a row of tents. It also represents the very newest that we usually stock in furniture. Since we try to buy only hand tooled, craftsman made, bespoke furniture, rather than mass produced, factory made furniture, our closing dateline is C1840. Melbourne was founded in 1835: an Industrial Revolution age city!
