19th Century 20cm French Bronze Venus de Milo
Standing 20 cm tall, this 19th century French bronze has fine caramel coloured patina. The Venus de Milo or Aphrodite of Melos is a marble sculpture probably by Alexandros of Antioch, from about 100BCE. She is currently happily residing in the Louvre Museum, one of the two museums in the Louvre palace complex. Bronzes of her were produced over a long period in various sizes. This is a particularly attractive one.
The original marble in the Louvre is an excellent reminder that even broken, incomplete things may still be valuable and admirable, and to be cherished.
