19th century Dieppe Ivory Corpus Christi Gilt Frame
This gilt framed Corpus is of a form traditionally seen over French beds. The carved wooden frame with the arched top is very typical. The carved corpus is ivory, in the style of Lebebvre, and has small losses, and cracking. The frame is 48 cm tall and 34.5 cm wide. The port of Dieppe was a great centre for ivory carving, using tusks from India, since the 17th century.
