40 YEARS SALE! C1670 Spanish Chair with Later C20th Pair (2 Chairs)

$950.00 was $1750 PAIR

8/40!  We've been selling antiques in Melbourne since 1979, so in 2019 we are offering our customers 40 random objects (10 per quarter) at dramatically reduced prices: usually way, way below cost. The drawback? No lay bys or storage on these items, I am afraid. Credit card, transfer or cash all equally acceptable.

We have a pair of chairs sold long ago by the David Jones Antiques department. One is Spanish and C1670, the other is a 20th century one of the same shape. They are large and comfortable chairs. Both are well made, with mortise, tenon and pegged construction. The current upholstery is a verdure tapestry style jacquard of excellent quality and durability, although such chairs usually were upholstered with leather in the 17th century. The Baroque outline of the chairs will sit very well against the white walls of Modernist Revival apartments.

Just over a metre high and 67 cm wide, the chairs have finely carved hand scrolls and pierced and carved front stretchers. Our "text book"chairs correspond to a design illustrated in Jose Claret Rubira's "Classical European Furniture Design: French, Spanish and English Designs." Gramercy, New York 1989
