40th YEAR SALE! C1900 French Transitional Commode Chest Drawers

$2,950.00 was $3950

14/40! We've been selling antiques in Melbourne since 1979, so in 2019 we are offering our customers 40 random objects (10 per quarter) at dramatically reduced prices (roll of the dice!): usually way, way below cost. The drawback? No lay bys or storage on these items, I am afraid. Credit card, transfer or cash all equally acceptable.

Was $3950 now $2950

Elegant and restrained, this antique Parisian three drawer commode is in the Transitional style of about 1770, but has been finely crafted at the tail end of the 19th century. Richly veneered in Tulipwood and Rosewood, the breakfront chest is embellished with ormolu ring handles, sabot and an apron ornament. A close replica of the 18th century original, the only initial clue to its date is the marble top, which is thinner than 18th century tops. The Transitional style of the late Louis XV period shows the gradual change from the Rococo to the rectilinear NeoClassical forms of Louis XVI. It is old enough to be beautifully made with hand cut dovetails on the drawers and other sophistications of master cabinetmaking.

86 cm tall,120 cm wide and 60 cm deep. See original listing for more pictures.
