C 1750 Louis XV Paris Encoignure (Corner Cabinet) by F. Mondon (1694-1770)

$6,750.00 the signed treasure.

Signed MONDON, with the Jurand stamp: JME, this impressive corner cabinet is veneered in palisandre and has its original marble top. The two door form is unusual.   Francois Mondon set up his workshop in the rue du Foubourg Saint-Antoine. The date of his being received as a master is unknown, probably in the 1730s. His use of rich, dark monochromatic veneers of costy palisandre or violetwood, with contrasting gilt bronze mounts is typical. A similar encoignure is exhibited in the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in the Louvre Palace Complex. A commode delivered in 1745 is on s display in the Chateau du Versailles.
