C1710 Queen Anne/George I Diamond and Garnet Brooch (formerly earrings)

$2,450.00 the ancient Jewel

While this is antique in its current brooch form, the 300 year old components started out as a pair of earrings. The brooch is made out of one third, and two thirds of the two earrings. The engraved gold back supports the silver setting for the arrangement of rose cut and table cut diamonds, and the pair of cabachon garnets. The diamonds are foil backed. It is not often we have 300 year old foil backed diamonds, but they are particularly alluring, and very different from the rather mechanical perfection of modern brilliant cuts, however sparkly.

2 cm by 4 cm. 19 diamonds.
