C1735 Splendid George II Chair in Walnut
This magnificent chair is C1735, George II period, and made of lots and lots of walnut. The cabriole legs are decorated with C scrolls and have pad feet. The apron is deep and in keeping with the grand English Baroque characteristic of sombre and solid magnificence. It is a large chair, standing 94 cm tall and 57 cm wide at the knees. It was meant as much to indicate the rank and prestige of the owner as to provide comfort. Made about a century before the founding of Melbourne, it more than conforms to our furniture criterion of being "older than Melbourne"!
