C1750 Louis XV White Fauteuil Armchair with Silk Upholstery
This charming C 1750 Louis XV period Rococo fauteuil type armchair (no padding between under the arms, unlike the enclosing bergere) is painted white, the more easily visible by candle light. It is the usual mortise, tendon and pegged construction, which gives it great strength and durability, its delicate appearance notwithstanding. The striped silk jacquard upholstery came with it and is perfect for the period and chair, and in excellent condition. Nicely carved marguerites.
On 18th century chairs the sharp angled armrest terminus is rare, but it must have appealed to the generation that put go-faster fins on cars, as many mid 20th century reproductions have this feature.
