C1750 Pair of White painted Louis XV Period Fauteuil Armchairs

Charming pair of white painted Louis XV period C1750 fauteuil, open armchairs. They are upholstered in an old 18th century style jacquard, that has some life still in it.

I read years ago a biography where the protagonist was visiting at a chateau in perhaps the 1920s, and they remarked on the arrival of the itinerant artisan who painted the chairs white every year. These chairs have a wonderfully rich patina of several coats of white paint. You don't trip over white painted chairs in a candlelit room, so there is a practical as well as aesthetic reason many chairs of the 1700s were painted.
