$2,200.00 set of 11

A set of 11 gilded silver spoons by Francois Joubert, (Master 1749 and still alive in 1793) Paris, C1760(?). The condition of the gold and of the spoons is excellent. The teaspoons are 14.5 cm long and weigh an average of 23.3 grams each: 256 grams total.10 are clearly hallmarked with Francois Joubert's mark struck twice, with a tiny and indecipherable poincon de decharge. The 11th spoon is marked indistinctly with two makers marks and also has the same small discharge mark. 958.33/1000 standard silver: known in Britain as Britannia standard, or 23 carats.

The red leather traveling case shown is in the National Gallery of Victoria, and features silver by Joubert and Louis Samson II. The Clark Museum, Williamstown, MA, has a very similar set of a dozen spoons by Joubert. The Queen's Royal Collection contains a gilded silver ecuelle underplate formerly belonging to the Emperor Napoleon. The 1750s ewer shown is in the Metropolitan Museum NY.
