C1760 French Brass Candlestick $350

A good cast brass candlestick, French, Louis XV style and period, which has the remains of fine engraving of leaves and flowers on the nozzle and base. It is particularly heavy and good quality and the fluted baluster is a somewhat unusual design. It was originally silvered or tinned. Traces of the original finish are visible underneath. Candlesticks of this type were usually clear lacquered, gilded, silvered, tinned, or sometimes lacquered green, black or scarlet occasionally with gilded decoration. They were never left as bare brass, requiring polishing. They always had a protective finish.
