C1760 Pair Louis XV Period Paris Fauteuil Armchairs

This fine pair of 18th century Rococo open armchairs with concave backs (fauteuil en cabriole) is C1760, Paris, and Louis XV in period and style. The chair frames have been structurally refurbished, polished and waxed. The upholstery was removed, and new jute webbing was installed. That is the part that has to be strong, and support the human frame. The original horsehair pad is re-used and the show fabric finishes it off. In this case my favourite Jacquard brocade "Ancient Green" has been used (I.Redelman & Sons) . We have another pair of similar chairs in this upholstery, by Louis Falconet, should you need a group of four. These are elegant and sinuous chairs in beech, and the carving is restrained and clear. A miracle of comfort, they demonstrate what we now call the science of ergonomics.
