C1770 Louis XV French Lyonaisse Fauteuil Armchair $3250
C1770 Louis XV French Walnut Lionaisse Fauteuil Armchair probably by Nogaret a Lyon.$3250
This excellent Louis XV style, Louis XVI period open armchair has just returned form being reglued, waxed and upholstered. It demonstrates the vigourous curves associated with chairs from Lyon, particularly with Pierre Nogaret, the renouwned menuisier. This chair has many features of those made by Nogaret. It looks like a Nogaret fauteuil in the proprtions and energetic curves. It also has the support stick beneath the seat, characteristic of Nogaret, however, the seat rails are not champhered on the inside, which is also a characteristic of his construction. As with all the Lyonaise chairs it is walnut rather than beech or a combination of both. It is apparently unmarked.
Pierre Nogaret established himself as a menuisier en sieges in Lyon after serving his apprenticeship in Paris. He moved to Lyon in about 1743 and was received as a maitre menuisier in 1745. Setting up business in rue Saint-Romain, he became a Courrier and then Maitre-Garde of his guild.
