C1770 Small Louis XV Period French Transitional Commode
Delightfully small, this late Louis XV period, Transitional commode was made about 1770 in France. The useful cartonnier inside is a later addition. The marble top is original but has been repaired, after a break through the middle. Richly worked in two varieties of Dalbergia, the commode retains its original bronzes: sabot, escutcheons and apron ornament. It features the usual characteristics of a Transitional commode, being the new straight lined, square, box-like body, combined with the retrospective Rococo cabriole legs.
84cm wide, 39 cm deep and 77cm tall.
