C1770 South German Parquetry Table

$2,250.00 the happy marriage.

This 18th century South German table is a charming hybrid. The top and base are from different tables. The base is admirably carved oak, with acanthus on the cabriole legs and with pied a biche feet. It once had a drawer. The much grander walnut parquetry top is probably similar age. It is tempting to speculate why they are now married up. The expensive walnut veneered top would have had a base of beech or solid walnut, both time bets subject to borer. The valuable top may have been placed on the less expensive oak base which was the right size and shape. It is a elegant and decorative table 59 cm by 77 cm and 75 cm tall: slightly taller than dining table height.
