C1770 Spectacular “Chinese Chippendale” Chest of Drawers

$5,650.00 the Magnificent Chest

An exceptional English "Chinese Chippendale", George III, block front mahogany chest of drawers, raised on ogee bracket feet. The chest has just been restored and is still at the restorer's, where it may be examined, in Coburg. Drawers now glide. It is now in splendid showroom condition. The front corners are not only canted, but intricately carved with Chinoiserie fretwork. Canted chests of drawers are much more expensive to make, due to the considerable additional work. Original handles and escutcheons, but the locks are a mixed bag, with two drawers with faux locks. As one would expect from such a high quality piece the drawers are all oak lined.

This is apparently the third set of structural repairs in the last 250 years, so the need for a thorough service every 83 years makes our car look very needy. It appears every fourth generation will need to invest a bit in the chest of drawers, so if you buy it today, your great, great grandchildren will have to do the next bit of renovation.

90.5cm tall, 112cm wide, and 56.5cm deep.
