C1780 White Louis XVI Fauteuil Armchair with Policemen’s Hats

One of our many genuine, authentic 18th century French chairs, and why would you settle for a mere copy, even an antique one? This Louis XVI period open armchair or fauteuil was made about 1780. It has the characteristic inverted column legs with flutes, with cables in the lower section of the flutes: a charming refinement. The back has chapeau a gendarme on the shoulders: policemen's hats. Such chairs were often painted, and this white paint has worn to a delightful patina. You can see white painted chairs by a single candle at night, so it was as much a practical consideration as for style. The green upholstery is as we bought it, and is perfectly sound, as well as suitable for the period of the chair.
