C1790 Louis XVI Commode with 5 Drawers

Long and low, this elegant commode is cherry wood and mahogany, on an oak carcase. The commode is a typical Luis XVI form, a long box of three flights of drawers, and straight, tapered legs. Classic in its proportions, out commode has the usual appearance of three top drawers, but while many are a facade on a single drawer, this commode really does have three separate top drawers. (They currently lack locks, but we are trying to address this.) The corner columns are fluted and the legs are turned and tapered, terminating in brass sabot. Each drawer front has a border of polished brass molding: bois laiton: brass over wood molding. The conforming and original marble top has been repaired by the wizards at Amalgamated Stone. The brown  line you see is NOT the repair but natural figure. The repair is nearly in the centre of the top, and is barely evident.

129cm wide, 87cm tall and 59 cm deep.
