C1790 Louis XVI/Directoire Dumb Waiter $2450

A French dumb waiter, or serviteur, in a style familiar to us from English Georgian furniture, with three plateaux above a tripod vase. C 1790, this example is French, Louis XVI or Directoire. The characteristic "barrel" and downward sloping legs are typically French. Until about 20 years ago, this would have been thought to be British, but modern scholarship has proved this not to be the case. Made originally for the dining or breakfast room, the convenient plateau held, at arms length, any extras needed at table. They are now much sought after for the display of collections of precious objects and are seen in any room in the house or apartment.
