C1790 Mahogany Sheraton Chair

From a design published in Thomas Sheraton's publication. Starting in 1791 he published in four volumes "The Cabinet Maker's and Upholsterer's Drawing Book". At least six hundred cabinet makers and joiners subscribed to his book. In 1803 he published "The Cabinet Dictionary", a compendium of instructions on the techniques of cabinet and chair making. In 1805 he published the first volume of "The Cabinet Maker, Upholsterer and General Artist's Encyclopaedia". This chair is mahogany, a particularly fine and elegant example. It has couple of minor scuffs, and it  needs new upholstery. Tired but gorgeous, with a tight frame, and cheap!
