C1800 French Louis XVI/Directoire Walnut Commode

This three drawer walnut commode or chest of drawers is French, made at the turn of the 18th to 19th Century, somewhere near 1800. It shows the style of the late Louis XVI period crossing into the Directoire, right at the time of the Revolution and The Terror. The conforming original marble top is rectangular with the protruding 3/4 circle at the front corners that corresponds to the fluted column forms below. The legs are slender toupie form. Brass mounts are kept to a tactful minimum, being six very crisp, angular handles and three shield shape escutcheons. The real thing is always the best!

90 cm tall, 112 cm wide and 57 cm deep.
