C1800 French Revolutionary Walnut Louis XVI/Directoire Commode Chest

This three drawer walnut commode or chest of drawers is French, made at the turn of the 18th to 19th Century, somewhere near 1800. It shows the style of the late Louis XVI period crossing into the and Directoire, right at the time of the Revolution and the Terror. The conforming original marble top is rectangular with the protruding 3/4 circled at the front corners that corresponds to the fluted column forms below. The legs are slender toupie form. Brass mounts are kept to a tactful minimum, being six very crisp, angular bail handles and three shield shaped escutcheons.

112 cm wide by 57 cm deep, and 90 cm tall. The whole looks wonderful and the walnut is polished to a rich, dark honey colour.
