This George III to IVth Derby spill vase has the red crowned D mark in script: 1806-1825. The flaring trumpet shape made it ideal for spills. Spills were twigs, rolled up old letter pages, etc, anything that could be used to transfer fire form the fire to a candles or vice versa. The painting on this vase is a delightfully observed scene of a landscape with a thatched cottage viewed at a distance between woodland trees. 11 cm tall.

There has been an expert repair to the everted lip, so it is practically invisible, but I would not put the vase in the dishwasher, where the heat and caustic soda would undo all the fine craftsmanship of the restoration. Hand wash only!
