This bun dish from a tea service is in a generic Japan pattern as was fashionable in the early 19th century. The rich underglaze cobalt blue is a brilliant contrast with the creamy white paste. The red, pink and green enamels are then enhanced by lavish gilding. The gold, being low fired on the surface of the glaze, is fugitive, but the maids have not managed to rub off much at all over the last two centuries. 21 cm diameter and 3.5 cm high.
