C1815 Oil Painting Portrait of a Lady, Circle of Sir Henry Raeburn

This lovely portrait was offered by Christies, London, in 2016. She was described as :"Circle of Sir Henry Raeburn, R.A. (Stockbridge 1756-1823 Edinburgh)
Portrait of a lady, bust-length, in a white dress and yellow shawl
oil on canvas
28 ¼ x 24 in. (72 x 61 cm.)"

"Circle of" is a specific term: a work of the period of the artist executed under his/her immediate influence". This seems particularly reasonable when the painting is compared with Raeburn's 1812 portrait of Elizabeth Campbell, Marchesa de Spineto. The similarities suggest a date for our painting of a tad after 1812, and the painter indeed being "circle of".
