C1820 English Lidded Sucrier, probably Coalport
A galleon shaped sugar bowl with lid, this sucrier is almost certainly certainly Coalport, C1820. The small handles are practical, and the pagoda lid finial also works effectively. The lavish decoration features a ground of cobalt blue, enriched with gilding. The flower paintings are skilfully executed. 17.5 cm wide and 10 cm tall.
While earlier porcelains featured large areas of brilliant white porcelain to show agains a bare polished mahogany table top, by the time of this sucrier, them porcelain was almost covered in rich decoration , as white tablecloths were now the fashionable background for the porcelain.
