C1820 Old Paris Cup & Saucer by Feuillet

$150.00 worn gilding

A spectacularly painted cup  and saucer by Feuillet, Charles X period, C1820. The apple green ground is rich and vivid. The gilding that enriches it is worn. The flowers are wonderfully painted. Feuillet was "one of the best decorators of the Restauration period". By 1817 he was in business at 5, rue de la Paix, and had been specially appointed to the Prince de Conde and the Duc de Bourbon. His relationship with the aristocracy was close, and he produced many copies of old soft paste Sevres, replacing or extending services lost or damaged in the Revolution. ".....flowers of dazzling craftsmanship are amongst the most numerous". Quotes are from Paris Porcelain, by Regina de Plinval de Guillebon, Barrie and Jenkins, London, 1972.    "Old Paris" or Vieux Paris is a collective term for the porcelain manufactories that existed within Paris between the 1780s and the 1860s. With the Grand Transformation that made Paris the predominantly late 19th century city we love today, the manufactories mostly moved to the Limoges region.
