C1820 Thomas HOPE style Regency Rosewood Centre Table
This is a spectacular Regency, George IVth period, 1820s, Rosewood centre table with magnificent carved concave triform base. Diameter 130cm.
A similar table by the celebrated lady cabinetmaker Mary Wilson is illustrated in "Marked London Furniture 1700-1840". It is almost identical to the one with Australian associations offered by Mossgreen, Dec 2009, for $7,500-$11,000 plus buyer Premium. That table was from "Ellenthorpe", mansion near Ross, Tasmania. That mansion was built by the Clarke family in the 1820s, where young ladies of the colony could come to be "finished". One of my dearest friends, now dead, was a descendant, and full of family anecdotes of genteel Georgian colonial life.
Also illustrated here is a room in 1826 in "Deepdene", Hope's mansion. A. somewhat grander table of the same classical design can be seen.
