C1830 Biedermeier Hipster Gentleman Oil on Canvas Painting
These portraits were anecdotally purchased some time ago at the Dorotheum, the large auction house in Vienna. Hence the portraits are likely to be Austro-Hungarian. We have separated the portraits as they are different in pose and can stand alone, although they are likely to be a marriage pair. The gilt wooden frames are 59 cm by 50 cm. This debonair gentleman sports a dashing ivory coloured top hat, typical of the period, and a fine moustache. This is an outdoor portrait, and the leather strap over the gentleman's shoulder probably supports a hunting gun.
I looked extensively or paintings exactly of this type and quality to buy in Paris all September, but would have had to pay at least this in Euros for so fine a portrait. These were bought locally.
