C1830 William IVth (4th) PAIR Rosewood Open Armchairs

$2,650.00 the grand pair

A triumph of cabinetmaking, this pair of chairs features a horseshoe seat, turned, reeded and carved legs, and graceful arms that continue the carving of the toprail. The back is carved at the shoulders with anthemion flowers, and the horizontal so plat is finely carved with rosettes and acanthus. They occupy that wonderful and mysterious period, so seldom seen brought to life on the screen, between Georgian and Victorian.

84 cm tall, 54 cm deep, and 54 cm wide. Now upholstered in practical, wipe down, waterproof canvas that references the horsehair fabric* so popular at the time.

*Made from horses' tails, so it is a very narrow but durable textile.
