C1834 Vienna Porcelain 5 Pce Biedermeier Cabaret Set

$1,950.00 the fabulous set

A spectacular Biedermeier Vienna porcelain cabaret set (for two persons), comprising coffee pot, hot milk pot,(for cafe au lait), two cups and saucers, and a fabulous Classical urn shaped  sucrier. The cups have entertaining faces beneath the handle top. The set is 1834 (pressnumern on the base) and Vienna. The Vienna factory was the Imperial Porcelain of Austria-Hungary. When it closed in 1864, it required and Act of Parliament and the Emperor's signature to effect this cataclysmic event*. It was founded in 1718. Many of the old molds and even workers from the Imperial factory moved to Hungary's principle porcelain factory, Herend, which is mercifully still with us, still producing luxury porcelains. Hence some Herend porcelain comes from 18th century Vienna molds.

The tallest pot is 20.5 cm high.

*Post-1864 "Royal Vienna" porcelains have absolutely no relationship to what is often called Alt Wien: Old Vienna. "Royal Vienna" is generic name for porcelain produced by many different factories, some better than others, but all unrelated to actual, genuine Vienna.
