C1840 Louis Philippe Fauteuil Rococo Revival Armchair
This graceful Rococo Revival fauteuil armchair (open under the arms) was made in France of polished beechwood about 1840. The legs are pegged, continuing the ancient tradition of mortise, tenon and pegged construction: the strongest and best joinery. The proportions are quite different from an 18th century chair, and while based on a Louis XV shape, this chair is Louis Philippe period (1830-1848). English furniture of this time is William IVth and Early Victorian, and one can see similarities. Comforatble, strong and elegant, this chair has existing sprung upholstery in perfect condition.
88 cm tall, 63 cm wide, and 63 cm deep.
