C1840 Louis Philippe Vieux Paris Hand Painted Vase

This spectacular Louis Philippe period vase is wonderfully painted on both sides with floral sprays, one featuring a basket. The apple green ground is enhanced by gilding. Vieux Paris gilding is very fugitive, so has often worn away. The gilding on this vase is in remarkable condition. There is a small lip repair and a small crack at the lip. 30 cm tall.

This type of wild, over-the-top, Rococo Revival vase from Paris is affectionately called a "Lunatic Vase" by a few of my clients. This one is a comparatively tame and austere example.
