C1840 Pair Vieux Paris, French, Louis Philippe Cache Pot (Pot Plant Holders)

$850.00 the Pair (ON HOLD)

A splendid pair of Vieux Paris porcelain cache pot, for holding pits of live plants. They are Louis Philippe period (1830-1848)This charming pair stands 17.5 cm tall with 17.5 cm diameters. Each side is hand painted with a floral garland, with gilt decoration. As is expected the gold being fugitive, some gold has worn. Also, as usual, saucers have disappeared. There are two gilded lion masks on each. They were made inside the "walls of Paris". Most of the old walls of the city of Paris were demolished by Louis XIV to provide tree lined walkways for promenading and dancing. Now those pleasure gardens are roads: the elegant Grands Boulevards.
