C1845 Louis Philippe French Reverse Glass Painting of a Lady

This is a rare and charming find. The colours are fresh and bright as the painting is a reverse glass example., That is to say the painting is applied to the back of the convex glass panel, so it cannot oxidise as most paintings do. (Sadly, the male companion pair has broken, glass and integral painting, so there are drawbacks to this technique.) The lady could easily be wearing the clothes, jewels  and hair of the 1840s, but we suspect she is meant to represent a lady of the late 16th century, in the Troubadour style popular in France from the 1820s to the 1850s. The original leaf gilt oval, floral frame is in good condition. The frame is 42 cm by 34 cm.
