C1845 Louis Philippe Vieux Paris Porcelain Vases

SOLD

A wild pair of hand painted French "Lunatic vases" as one of my friends calls such exuberant things. Vieux Paris porcelain is a category that covers the porcelain manufactories within the walls of Paris from the late 18th century to the dispersion of those factories into Limoges and such regions, after the major rebuild of Paris in the Second Empire. These vases are Louis Philippe period (1830-1848), and demonstrate the opulence of the age, as well as its fascination with the exotic past. The Persian figures painted on the vases allude to exciting and far off cultures.

There is a repair to one handle and some minor losses to petals. 31 cm tall.
