C1853 Coromandel Dressing and Jewellery Case

In straight figured Coromandel wood, and brass moulding and inlay, this luxurious box opens to reveal fitted spaces, now empty of silver topped glass bottles and boxes. It can be relined as a jewellery casket. The lift-out tray reveals a compartment below. One sterling silver box top remains, so we know the date of manufacture was about 1853, conforming to the silver hallmark. Once the top is open, a concealed button can be pushed and side drawer springs out. It has a jewel tray and a long ring slot. The lid has a spring locked panel that is removed, and contains a (broken) mirror. A billet doux compartment is revealed.

18 cm tall, 31 cm long and 22 cm deep.
