C1860 Brazil Rosewood and Brass Box

This handsome Mid-Victorian (1850-1870) box is Brazil Rosewood with brass embellishments. The shaped cartouche on the lid bears the engraved initials I.H.D. I was still used for I and J at this time, so the likelihood is that the Christian name was John, James or Joseph. The interior has long since been removed, leaving only the original lining to the lid. This probably makes it more useful in the present day.

28 cm wide, 20 cm deep and 12 cm tall.
