C1860 British Prime Minister Campbell-Bannerman’s Dinner Set

This part dinner service was made for the British Prime Minister Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman GCB, PC, (1836-1908). He was PM from 1905 to 1908. The service, however, is much earlier and comes from the time of his marriage in 1860. The service comprises two dinner plates with the PM's crest and motto painted in the centre, four soup bowls and an oval platter. All are in perfect condition. The crested plates are 25 cm in diameter. The candy pink and green decoration is typical of the bright colours fashionable in the middle of the 19th century. The whole is enriched with gilding.The Worcester backstamp is the circle with inset Cs, without crown, used C1852-1862.
