C1860 Limoges Coloured Parian Porcelain Ariadne on her Leopard.

A Parian Sculpture of Ariadne on a Panther after the original by Johann Heinrich von Dannecker, 1810-1814, wearing only an acanthus wreath, the Cretan princess is seated in a relaxed pose upon the big cat, not signed. This image was made in parian porcelain by many factories, including MInton, which factory also produced some in colour. The hand painted colours of the flesh, drapery and marble plinth are very endearing, and the leopard is particularly well executed. This example is French. Coloured examples are extremely rare. There is a crack to the plinth.

23 cm wide, 11 cm deep and 25.5 cm tall.
