Typically opulent and luxurious, this pair of 24ct gold gilded bronze mounted vases are Napoleon III period, from the Second Empire (1852-1870). The porcelain in French, hard paste. The hand painted and gilded decoration on the vases is a generic Japan pattern, in typical Imari palette of underglaze cobalt blue, orange and gilding, but enlivened with some turquoise, green, yellow and pink. There is a hairline crack around the bombe section of one.

31 cm tall, and 19 cm diameter.

The room is the Salon in the Napoleon III rooms in the Palais du Louvre. Yes, the central chandelier is indeed the size of a small caravan.
