C1860 Vieux Paris Vase, Napoleon III

No shrinking violet, this extravagant fan shaped vase makes the most of expensive rare blossoms. The Rococo Revival form is so dramatic, it is not surprising the decoration is restricted to gilding. It stands 26 cm tall, is 22 cm wide but only 10 cm deep, allowing for a wide display of blooms on a narrow mantle shelf, or in front of a mirror, which would double the horticultural magnificence. It is decorative enough to be happy empty. An excellent souvenir of Second Empire Paris.
