C1870 French Champleve Enamel on Gilt Brass Tazza
This elegant and colourful tazza is French and the enamel is in perfect condition: this is rare. Napoleon III, Second Empire in period, the style is called Greek, although the association has always seemed tenuous to me. The gold plating on the tazza is a little worn. It is 11.5 cm tall by 26 cm diameter. Champleve enamel is where the metal is either chiselled out or cast, so that there is a recessed reservoir to fill with the glass powder and oil that is then vitrified, giving a flush surface of enamel and metal.
