C1870 French Limoges Porcelain Tea Tray

$225.00 the set

This small French teaset is unmarked but of the typical form for Limoges products of C1870. The hard paste porcelain is decorated with Marie Antoinette's favourite motif: the blue cornflowers. It comprises a teapot, a lidded sucrier and a seamer on an oval tray. The train is 19.5 cm by 31 cm. It probably originally had a single matching cup and saucer (a solitaire). There would not have been room for two cups and saucers (a cabaret). Delightful, decorative practical, and evocative of the great Queen. What more could one ask for.

Well, it could be Sevres, of course, but with more zeros in the price!
