C1870 GIANT Minton Sculptures by A. Carrier-Belleuse of Autumn and Spring
These wonderful Minton porcelain figures of maidens are huge: 73 cm. They are also notable for being modelled by Albert-Earnest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887) a famous French sculptor. He was a founding member, in 1862, of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, and was an officer of the legion of Honour. He worked for Mintons in England in 1850-1855, during which time these figures were modelled. August Rodin was his assistant in the 60s. The figures came from the estate of the hotel millionaire, Baron (a name, not a rank) Hilton.
They have been rendered more affordable by some damage. While the structure of the porcelain is fine, the airbrushing where one neck and one arm have been damaged has deteriorated a bit. New air brushing by a good restorer like Tyson China Repairs could restore their complexions.
