C1870 Hand Painted Limoges Vase
The 32.5 cm tall, hand painted scene of an idyllic 18th century scene of a lady being serenaded by a man with a guitar probably comes from a Watteau painting. While the painting is in pristine condition much of the gilding framing it has worn away. Made about 1870 the hard paste porcelain is unmarked, but almost certainly from one of the many Limoges factories. The deep russet ground colour is very sumptuous. Practical as well as decorative! From the end of the Napoleon III period.
