C1870 Pair of signed HENRI PICARD (Supplier to Napoleon III) Louis XIV style Ormolu Candlesticks

$5,250.00 the spectacular pair

Spectacular in every way, this pair of gilt bronze candlesticks is in the high style of 1690s Louis XIV. 232 cm tall, including the original bobeche. 12.5 cm wide. These, however, were made about 1870, with a great deal of hand finishing by Napoleon III's Court Supplier of ormolu luxuries. (A pair of 12 light candelabra made for Napoleon III's rooms at the Louvre Palace by Picard are still exhibited in the Louvre Museum.) Our candlesticks are both signed H. Picard on the section revealed when the base and baluster are unscrewed. Henri Picard was based in rue Jarente from 1831 to 1839, when he moved to 10 rue de la Perle. The firm continued until about 1890.
