C1870 Pair Spectacular Gilt Carved Wood Bergere in Louis XVI Style

$3,650.00 the spectacular PAIR

This pair of water gilt carved wood Louis XVI style curricle or gondole bergere is Napoleon III period, Second Empire. The frames are tight and the gilding is in excellent condition with just a bit of charming wear at the arms showing the bole, gesso and carved wood beneath. Many of these chairs had cast and applied decoration in composition. Hand carved detail is a sign of great quality. The upholstery structure and down cushions are in good condition, but the fabric envelope has completely given up and needs replacing. The legs are fluted and cabled, and the arms are decorated with acanthus. Rinceau (riband and thread) ornament is carved on the seat rails, and the back is carved with a continuous band of acanthus.

The quality and condition are comparable to the magnificent Museum standard pair of 18th century giltwood bergere by Sene, that we sold some time ago, and which are still illustrated in our website.

95 cm tall, 65 cm wide and 67 cm deep.
