C1875 Minton Hand Painted Cabinet Plate with Landseer Dog

This wonderful plate is unmarked, but clearly Minton. In perfect condition, the plate is in the French style imitating Sevres, with its rich blue ground decorated with gilt fleur de lis, the symbol of Royal France (and by extension, New Orleans!). The white jeweling on the border is a typical technique also referencing Sevres. The hand painted portrait painted with a Newfoundland dog by Henry Mitchell, is after a painting by Landseer, the famous English animal painter. Minton used this  and other Landseer images extensively in the mid-1870s. 23 cm diameter.
